Desiree Ellis, head coach of South Africa’s women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, is already focused on the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games qualifying match against Nigeria.
The African champions are set to face the Super Falcons in a crucial playoff next month, with the winner earning a spot at Paris 2024. Ellis emphasized the importance of securing a favorable result in the first leg to alleviate pressure in the home fixture.
She stated, “I think the first leg is going to be key and important for us to get a good result there to take the pressure off coming home because they [Nigeria] are a quality team.”
Ellis highlighted the need for full concentration throughout the match, saying, “If you don’t take your chances, they might get one and put it away.”
She emphasized the team’s determination to create and convert opportunities, adding, “We have to make sure we outscore them and don’t concede.”
