Bob Osim Criticizes Enugu Rangers’ Recruitment Strategy

Date:

Bob Osim, a former Enugu Rangers player and Nigerian international, has expressed concern over the club’s extensive player recruitment ahead of the new NPFL season and their continental campaign. Osim believes that adding as many as ten new players to the squad could hinder the team’s performance both domestically and internationally.

Osim argues that integrating such a large number of new players could disrupt team chemistry and consistency, which are crucial for success. He emphasized that it would have been more beneficial to add only a few high-quality players to strengthen the existing squad.

“It’s a terrible fit, I have to say the truth. It’s not encouraging,” Osim remarked. “Because these 10 players we are talking about now are players that the coach will tend to use in executing his games. And in football, we’re talking about consistency. Players that have played together for a while and understand each other very well is a plus to that team.”

He further elaborated, “If they are taking 10 players to the team and they want to use these 10 players, it will be a terrible thing for them. I fear for their progress because that understanding will no more be there, and then it will affect them negatively. So that is a minus on their own side.”

Osim expressed his surprise and disappointment at the club’s decision, stating, “I’m surprised that they have to do that. A team like Rangers would recruit 10 players in a season. I mean, it’s terrible. I’ve not seen that. It’s not a good thing. It’s not a good omen at all.”

Rnagers are due to face Comoros outfit Union Sportive Zilimadjou in the first leg of the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League.
