Club Brugge of Belgium attacker, Bonaventure Dennis had to be rested for his club’s UEFA Champions League last group match against Atletico Madrid of Spain as a precaution against a relapse of a recent injury.
Although Bonaventure returned to training on Monday, barely 24 hours to the game, footballlive.ng gathered that the Belgian champions opted to leave him out to avoid a recurrence so soon after his recovery.
Bonaventure had to be substituted after 20 minutes in Club Brugge’s 3-0 win versus Standard Liege on December 2, due to a hamstring complaint he copped soon after scoring in the game. The 21-year-old attacker did not participate in training last week and was not in the squad for Friday’s match against Waasland-Beveren.
Though Bonaventure returned to training on Monday, Brugge’s medics reckoned that the UCL game against Atlético was too soon for him.
Consequently, Bonaventure was not named in Brugge coach, Ivan Leko’s 19-player roster and did not feature against Atléti at Jan Breydelstadion on Tuesday evening.
It was another blight for Bonavenure, who has played three Champions League matches for Club Brugge, with two starts against AS Monaco of France on October 24 and Borussia Dortmund on November 28.
