Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia defender, Brian Idowu is set to revive his battle for relevance with the Super Eagles by bringing to bear his versatile qualities and lay claim for the team’s right-back position.
After losing his spot to SC Pardeborn of Germany left-back, Jamilu Collins, footballllive.ng gathered that Idowu may have to start thinking more of using his natural foot on the right side of the Eagles’ defence.
Although he has played all his previous matches for the Eagles as a left full back, Idowu impressed as a right back in Monday’s training session.
That set him up for a role down the right side of defence in Tuesday’s friendly against Uganda, much to the delight of soccer fans, who feel the former Amkar Perm and Zenit St. Petersburg star did not fair well on the left in action for Nigeria at the World Cup in the country of his birth.
Apart from his debut against Argentina on November 14, 2017, when he scored one of the Eagles’ goals in a famous 4-2 win, Idowu has struggled in that role, such that he had been touted to revert to the right all along.
However, it means he will still have to ward off stiff competition from Shehu Abdullahi and Tyronne Ebuehi, as well as the equally versatile Ola Aina, who are highly rated as world class right backs of top quality.
