Manchester United have won their appeal against Bruno Fernandes red card, which he received during their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Fernandes was sent off in the first half for a challenge on James Maddison, but after the club lodged an appeal, the FA overturned the decision.
Fernandes appeared to slip as he closed in on Maddison, and his leg caught the Tottenham midfielder. Referee Chris Kavanagh showed a straight red card, with VAR official John Brooks supporting the decision. However, after a review of the incident, the FA ruled that the dismissal was incorrect.
The FA statement read: “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.”
The overturned decision means Fernandes will be available for United’s upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham.
Fernandes was furious about the original decision, insisting that even James Maddison believed it wasn’t a red card.
“I think in the eyes of everyone, you can see that is never a red card because if this is a red card, I think we have to look at many other incidents.”
”I had many incidents when I get kicked and everything, and I’ve never seen something so quick coming off as a red card. I just think it’s never a red card.”
United manager, Erik ten Hag also argued that the sending-off dramatically impacted the game, although Tottenham had already dominated possession before Fernandes’ dismissal.
