Bukayo Saka emerged as the hero in England’s Euro 2024 quarterfinal win against Switzerland after missing a crucial penalty in England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy and faced racist abuse afterwards.
He scored a brilliant individual goal and converted a penalty in the shootout, helping England secure a spot in the semifinals.
Saka was proud of overcoming the challenges he faced after Euro 2020. “To come back from something like that was really difficult. I used it to make me stronger. Today I took the chance and I’m happy,” he said.
The Arsenal winger scored the equalizer to bring England back into the game and was one of the successful penalty takers in the shootout. England won 5-3 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in extra time.
At just 22, Bukayo Saka has become a key player for England, with 38 appearances and 12 goals. His performance against Switzerland showcased his growth and determination since the Euro 2020 final.
England will now face the Netherlands in the semifinals on Wednesday, aiming to reach their second consecutive European Championship final.
