CAF CC: Enugu Rangers risk CAF Confederations Cup group stage exit

Date:

Nigeria’s sole CAF Confederations Cup campaigners Enugu Rangers is on the the verge of failing to qualify for the quarter final stage of the league after losing at home to 4-time champions Etoile du Sahel on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu.

The Flying Antelopes were hoping to get all maximum points in the game to put them in contention for qualification out of the group but we’re shocked by their Northern African opponent at home in front of their home fans.

Rangers suffered their first loss of the competition to the Sousse based team on the 24th of February and we’re hoping to get an home win but Etoile against the run of play took the lead in the 19th minute through Maher Hannachi while Iheb Msakni’s perfectly taken panenka in the 69th beat Rangers Nana Bonsu in goal after the away team was awarded a penalty kick after a foul from Isaac Loute’s in the box.

With the loss Enugu Rangers now drops to third on the table behind the two Tunisian giants with Etoile du Sahel moving to the top of the group on seven points while CS Sfaxien is second on five points after getting a draw away to Salitas of Burkina Faso. Salitas sits bottom of the log in Group B on three points failing to win any game.

Enugu Rangers’ next game will be away to Salitas in a must win fixture on the 10th of March before their final game against CS Sfaxien at home.
