CAF CC: Etoile du Sahel ends Enugu Rangers eight-game unbeaten streak

Date:

Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia on Sunday handed Nigeria’s sole CAF Confederations Cup campaigners Enugu Rangers their first loss of the competition with a 2 – 1 win at the 28, 000 capacity Stade Olympique de Sousse in matchday three of the group stage.

The Flying Antelopes went into the game on a backdrop eight unbeaten matches starting from the preliminary round of the competition against Defence Force of Sierra Leone in 2018.

Bright Silas against the run of play put the Nigerian team in front in the 15th minute with a well-calculated finish after a headed flick from lanky forward Michael Uchebo but the home side were back in the game in the 35th minute through Iheb Msakni before completing the comeback in the 65th minute through defender Sadam Ben Aziza as the Nigerian players failed to clear their lines.

Despite the loss, Enugu Rangers remains second on the log on four points behind CS Sfaxien who had earlier played a goalless draw against Salitas of Burkina Faso in the other fixture. Etoile du Sahel who got their first win of the group stage campaign sits third on the table also on four points while Salitas remains button with just two points in three games.

Enugu Rangers will entertain Etoile du Sahel in a reverse fixture in Nigeria on the third of March by 2 pm while table toppers CS Sfaxien will be home to Salitas.
