Former MLS Star Fanendo Adi will redeem a ₦1.1million pledge to Lobi Stars for the victory over Gor Mahia in the first round second-leg match of the CAF Champions League qualifiers on Saturday.
Adi, who plays for FC Cincinnati in the United Soccer League Championship, reportedly promised the NPFL winners ₦500,000 for every goal scored and ₦1million for a win against the Kenyan team.
Fortunately, Lobi Stars sealed a spot in the group stage of the competition with a comfortable 2-0 win courtesy a brace by Sikiru Alimi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Saturday.
They thus advanced on a 3-3 aggregate win, following the 3-1 first-leg result in Nairobi.
The club’s official twitter handled quoted the former Portland Timbers forward:
Benue State indegene & @fccincinnati star, @fanendo, promised players of @LobiStars N500,000 per goal and N1,000,000 for victory during the interval. The players delivered. “Since I am home as @MLS is on break, I came to support my State team, #WeAreLobi. I am happy #Lobi won”.
