Chelsea have joined the race to lure Atlanta United of USA youngster, George Bello to England, but face stiff opposition from Manchester City and Everton.
Bello has become the most sought after Nigerian-born player based in God’s Own Country, following his senior debut in America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) last weekend against Wayne Rooney’s DC United.
Although Bello’s side lost the game 3-1, the 16-year-old rising star, who was born in Abuja before moving to the United States at a young age, got a personally rewarding first-team debut.
Before Chelsea’s interest in Bello, Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola had already made an enquiring over the defender, but Everton soon also popped into the picture for the lad, who started as a centre-forward but has developed into a dominant left-back.
Interestingly, all three EPL clubs are bound to face stiff opposition for Bello’s deal outside England as well, as Genoa and AS Roma of Italy as well as Schalke of Germany are also said to be keen on the youngster, who has featured for United States under-17s.
