Chelsea’s winless streak in their preseason tour of the United States continued with a heavy 4-1 defeat to Celtic at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana on Saturday.
After a 2-2 draw with Wrexham on Wednesday, Chelsea struggled under new manager Enzo Maresca. Celtic took control early with two goals in the first half. Matt O’Riley opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by Kyogo Furuhashi’s goal, both set up by Greg Taylor.
Chelsea’s Marc Guiu missed a chance to cut the deficit early in the second half. Celtic then sealed the win with goals from Luis Palma and Michael Johnston, capitalizing on Chelsea’s defensive errors. Chelsea’s only goal came from a late penalty by Christopher Nkunku after Raheem Sterling was fouled.
