Chukwueze Starts Training Under New Coach

Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has begun a new chapter in the club, following the arrival of their latest coach, Luis Garcia Plaza, who on Tuesday replaced sacked Javi Calleja.

Plaza has stepped in for a second spell with the team that once paid the wages of ex-Super Eagles striker, Ikechukwu Uche, after he earlier spent the 2005/06 season in charge of Villarreal’s B-side.

Footballlive.ng reports that the former coach, who gave Chukwueze his breakthrough with The Yellow Submarine, was relieved of the job on Monday, following Saturday’s 2-3 home loss to Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Calleja handed Chukwueze a first-team debut and the winger wasted little time before he broke into Villarreal’s starting lineup, with five consecutive starts in La Liga to date.

Under Calleja, the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup revelation pooled 647 minutes for Villarreal’s first team in all competitions, including La Liga, Copa del Rey and Europa League.

Chukwueze, who has scored three goals and has one assist, will now wait anxiously discover his fate at Villarreal in the coming days, under the 46-year-old Plaza, who had his first training spell with the lads on Tuesday.

In the 2005/6 season, Plaza coached Villarreal’s second team before he move on to Levante, Getafe and Beijing Renhe.

Chukwueze will get a quick sign of things to come, as Villarreal’s next match is against Spartak Moscow of Russia in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, December 13.
