Daniel Akpeyi unloved by Kaizer Chief fans after howler against Polokwane City

Date:

Kaizer Chiefs fans are unhappy with Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi after his howler against 8th placed Polokwane City in the South Africa Premier Soccer League cost the team two valuable points.

Kaizer Chiefs took the lead in the 15th minute through Daniel Cardoso’s well-executed penalty but were pegged back by the home side through Walter Tetenda Musona’s 35-yard shot which was fumbled by the Nigerian goalkeeper who failed to make a meaningful connection with the ball.

Reacting to the game and Akpeyi’s howler, Kaizer Chiefs fans have called for the newly signed goalkeeper to be benched since he has failed to contribute positively to the team.

@karimthagod wrote, “@KaizerChiefs should’ve given Vries more time to grow into the goalkeeping position instead of spending money to bring in Akpeyi who has been leaking since his arrival.”

@itanimudau1983 stressed. “I still don’t understand the reason to bring Daniel Akpeyi when Bvuma is there, Ernest playing Ntiyantiya out of position, bench full of defenders instead of attacking. Middendorp (the coach) must go.”

@Seabreeze “Akpeyi is a senior and a regular at National level he shouldn’t be doing this type of errors.”

@Charles50585193 “I feel sorry for Daniel Akpeyi the purpose of him brought to chiefs was to prevent what happened now.”

@Matome Kay “I hope after that Daniel Akpeyi howler will have him relegated to the bench like it was the case with Virgil Vries. We need consistency. With that said, right now we’re left with one goalkeeper in Bruce Bvuma at Kaizer Chiefs”

@Muzy29 “This is what happens when teams don’t trust up and coming local keepers. Bvuma given a chance can do a better job than Akpeyi

Former PSL Champions Kaizer Chiefs is currently sixth on the table after 21 matches and are nine points behind the log leader Bidvest Wits.
