Former Nigeria international, Dimeji Lawal, is surprised over the omission of Super Eagles’ Ahmed Musa from the squad list for the CHAN qualifier against Ghana.
Musa, who has been performing well as a home-based player, would have been a valuable addition, Lawal suggested, unless Musa himself opted out of the selection.
“Why is Ahmed Musa not on the list?” Lawal questioned per Brila.net.
“He’s a home-based player and playing fantastically well. Or probably they’ve discussed it with him and he doesn’t want to be on the list. He is a senior player and doing really well.”
While recognizing Musa’s experience and influence, Lawal refrained from criticizing the coach’s decision, noting that team selection ultimately depends on the coach’s philosophy.
“Every coach selects his team based on his own philosophy, so I can’t question anyone on that list,” he explained.
Lawal concluded by stating that what works for one player might not suit another, respecting the decision made in this case.
