Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has opted to name two players in his starting lineup for Friday’s match against Iceland, as Elderson Uwa Echiejile and Eddy Ogenyi Onazi are back in the first eleven, while Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) and Tyronne Ebuehi are the other two in his start list that is different from what lined out against Croatia.
However, while ‘Simy’ takes over as arrow head in attack, Odion Jude Ighalo moves to the right side of the forward line, to operate from the flank, with Victor Moses shifting to the left in place of Alex Iwobi; with Ahmed Musa apparently eventually left out on the bench
A sneak preview of the Eagles’ squad list for the match ion Volgograd, Russia further revealed that Gernot Rohr appears to have settled for a 4-3-3 formation for their next game against Iceland on Friday.
Rohr used the 4-2-3-1 formation in the 0-2 loss against Croatia and from all indication he has ditched it for a two man attack system with Simy Nwankwo and Odion Ighalo leading the line.
The coach gave a hint of how the team will line up by taking out time to work with some players who are likely in the running to start as Nigeria aim to keep their World Cup campaign alive.
Team captain, John Obi Mikel and Onazi are tipped to resume their partnership in the midfield with alongside star man in the first game Oghenekaro Etebo, while Wilfred Ndidi is likely to be dropped.
Tyronne Ebuehi and Elderson Echiejile will play as right and left wing backs respectively while William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun will lead the three men at the back.
