Cercle Brugge of Belgium defender, Elderson Uwa Echiejile has admitted he is excited with the inclusion of his name in Nigeria’s final squad list to this year’s World Cup.
Echiejile now stands the prospects of playing at his second World Cup for Nigeria, after South Africa 2010, and make up for the agony of missing Brazil 2014 due to injury, hence his excitement at making the squad to Russia 2018.
The 30-year-old defender was an unused substitute in Saturday’s friendly game against England at Wembley Stadium with Idowu on for the entire duration.
However, Echiejile remains the only natural left back in the Eagles squad and will be ready to battle Amkar Perm’s Bryan Idowu for a spot in the Nigerian line-up.
The Eagles will play their last friendly game against the Czech Republic in Austria on Wednesday and will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia on 16th of June.
The left-back, who is on loan from AS Monaco of France added: “I am looking forward to the World Cup and the challenge it brings.
“Playing in the World Cup in Russia will be a great achievement for me again after missing the 2014 World Cup in Brazil due to injury.”
