Cercle Brugge of Belgium defender, Elderson Uwa Echiejile has declared himself fit and ready to shine with the Super Eagles at this year’s World Cup, as he insists he is not nursing injury of any kind.
Though reports had been replete with information that the left-back, who is on loan from AS Monaco of France, had been left out of Cercle’s squad for recent fixtures due to fitness issues, Echiejile says he is fit like a fiddle.
Though he spent the second half of the campaign on loan in the Belgian lower division, Echiejile has not played competitively since February 25, but he insists he is in tip-top condition as he heads out for international duty.
With Echiejile’s contract at Monaco set to run out at the end of next month, the former Bendel Insurance star is hoping to put himself in the shop window if he’s named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.
The 30-year-old started all of Nigeria’s five games in the third round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers but did not travel for the forfeited match against Algeria.
A source close to the player disclosed: ”They ended their season early in March, but he was training and playing friendly matches with the club.
”He rounded up his activities with the club a few days ago and is holidaying in the United States. He is coming in soon, he has no injury and he is very, very fit.”
