Emenalo, Essien Encouraged Me At Chelsea – Omeruo

Date:

Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo has shot another look back at his days with Chelsea of England, and recalls the roles played by Michael Emenalo and Michael Essien in his days at Stamford Bridge.

Although Omeruo has not been able to play a single competitive senior match for Chelsea, since signing for The Blues in 2012 from Standard Liege of Belgium, footballlive.ng can report that he is glad for the roles both Michaels played in encouraging him to keep trying.

Omeruo recounted that it was Emenalo, a former Super Eagles’ defender and USA ’94 World Cup star for Nigeria, that signed him for Chelsea from Liege, while Ghanaian icon, Essien helped him settle down.

The dark-skinned stopper, who has found great form on loan from the English Premier League club to Leganes, reasoned further that, while he could call Emenalo his mentor, Essien was his biggest influence in the London-based club’s team, not Nigerian pals, Mikel Obi or Victor Moses.

Omeruo disclosed: “Michael Emenalo was someone I could speak to at Chelsea when I was newly signed by the club.
“He is a Nigerian and was the sport director that signed me. So, of course, he played a big role in my coming to Chelsea.
“And my biggest influence from Chelsea would definitely be Michael Essien. It is definitely him.”
