Enyimba’s 1-0 victory against CARA Brazzaville in the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday was exciting for a lot of reasons, but particularly for the return of Mfon Udoh.
Udoh showed the class such as the Elephants need on the pitch at every game and twice he came very close to scoring against the Congolese team.
Once quite revered for his marksmanship, the NPFL’s all-time record scorer – in a season -, the player has been a victim of his own success, suffering injuries and rushing back only to suffer major relapses.
On Wednesday though, he showed no signs of any setbacks and was pivotal for the Aba side as they returned to their newly rufurbished Arena.
Udoh struck the cross bar twice from two free kicks, a not-so-new ability he possess, but glimmer of the old poacher.
His second attempt led to the winning goal after Wasiu Alalade pounced on the ball after if came off the cross bar.
Enyimba thus progress, as group C leaders, to the quarter-final where they’ll face Rwanda’s Rayon Sports.
