Nigeria’s U20 football team, the Flying Eagles, on Saturday at the Agege Stadium trounced visitors Mauritania 5-0 in a second leg match in the 2019 Total U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Flying Eagles thus complete the reverse game of the final round of qualifying with a 6-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 1-1.
Nafizi Yahaya grabbed a brace and further goals from Wasiu Alalade, Aniekeme Asuquo and Afeez Aremu handed the Paul Aigbogun managed side the qualified ticket.
Enyimba forward Alalade who was menacing for the hosts expressed joy with the ruthless win.
“We wanted to win this game convincingly and got rewarded with the huge margin. There is joy in our hearts for the win and qualification to Niger 2019,” Alalade told Footballlive.ng.
“Having played 1-1 in the first leg, the only outcome for us was to win in front of our fans. From the first minute we declared our intentions and bombarded them. It was a deserved victory.
“I’m happy to have played my part in the team’s success. We will storm Niger with a positive mindset and qualify for the U20 FIFA World Cup.”
