Equatorial Guinea Hit by Defeat After Points Deduction

Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane scored a late goal as Tunisia defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Tunis on Wednesday night.

This victory lifts the Carthage Eagles to the top of Group H, opening a two-point lead over Namibia, who were held to a draw by Liberia earlier in the evening.

This marks Tunisia’s third consecutive win.

For Equatorial Guinea, this result effectively counts as a third successive defeat. Despite winning their first two matches, those victories were nullified due to fielding an ineligible player, resulting in 3-0 walkover losses.

Consequently, Nzalang Nacional sits at the bottom of the six-team group with zero points.

The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute when Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane converted a penalty, scoring Tunisia’s first effort on target and sealing the victory.

Tunisia will next face Namibia away in Johannesburg on Sunday, June 9, while Equatorial Guinea will host Malawi in Malabo the following day.
