The management of Nigeria’s base camp at the 2018 World Cup in Russia gave the team’s technical adviser, Gernot Rohr a pleasant surprise by staging a party to celebrate his 65th birthday with him on Thursday.
Incidentally, it was the same day Super Eagles’ defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun clocked 30, but all attention on the official level went for Rohr, who was born on the 28th of June, 1953 in Mannheim, Germany.
The former OGC Nice manager was appointed head coach of the Eagles in 2016 and his contract was extended by the NFF till 2020 after he steered the team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Rohr has been in charge of the Eagles for 20 games, winning nine, losing six and drawing five, but Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Argentina knocked his side out of the ongoing World Cup.
However, that did not stop Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) from formally celebrating his birthday on Thursday, and the body tweeted a greeting to him, with a picture of the coach surrounded by staff of the base camp in Essentuki.
“Happy birthday to @NGSuperEagles Coach Gernot Rohr. The staff at the Essentuki Base Camp offered him a cake and bouquet of flowers to celebrate his day,” the NFF stated.
