Etebo Relishes Playing At 2018 World Cup

Date:

New signing at Stoke City of England, Oghenekaro Etebo is picking positives from his outings with the Super Eagles at this year’s World Cup, as he says it was a very useful experience, which he believes will boost his career moving forward.

The former Warri Wolves of Delta State, CD Feirense of Portugal and Las Palmas of Spain midfielder, who was one of Nigeria’s few standout players during three matches at Russia 2018, admitted that losing to Argentina on Tuesday was a big blow to his hopes, but stressed that he has only gains to celebrate from going to Russia.

Etebo admitted that the game against Argentina remains the toughest of his career, but said he is proud to have represented the country at the FIFA World Cup.

Etebo, who completed a deal to join Stoke days before Nigeria’s opening game against Croatia, said he will now turn attention to his new club and help them back to the English Premier League next season.

The Rio 201 Olympics revelation, who completed more take-ons than any other player at Russia 2018, a total of 18 (16) 88.89%, further thanked Nigerian fans for what he called all of their amazing support during the competition.

“This was one of the toughest games of my career. The result didn’t go our way but I am truly honoured and blessed to have this experience.

“To represent my country at a World Cup, competing with the best players in the world at my age was a dream come true,” Etebo stated.
