Former Nigerian international, Duke Udi has disagreed with the Internal Federation of Football History and Statistics, for awarding Vincent Enyeama as the greatest African goalkeeper ever. Enyeama was recently selected as the greatest shotstopper in continental history for his performances for club and country in his playing days.
Udi recognized that Enyeama was a very good goalkeeper during his days, but he is not the greatest the country had witnessed. The former defender raised Joseph Antoine Bell as a candidate for such recognition. Udi reemphasized that Enyeama was even top five in the continent’s footballing history, but he was not the best.
Udi, in his exact words said:
“My personal opinion, Enyeama is a good goalkeeper but not the best african goalkeeper. Where would you put Anthony Bell, that’s my question”.
“Vincent is a very good goalkeeper, he is amongst the best but I can’t say he is the best. That’s their own opinion. There are about 3 or 4 goalkeepers that are better than him. He is amongst the best 5 in Africa, but he is not the best”.
