Former Nigerian International, Duke Udi has commended Alex Iwobi’s passion for Nigeria. This comes after the Fulham man received multiple negative comments from fan, criticizing his performances at the just concluded African Cup of Nations.
Udi said Nigerians should copy the ivorians and gather around the team, even when things are not smooth. He emphasized that football is a team sport, and that the entire team lost the final, not just Alex Iwobi.
In his exact words, Udi said:
“Playing for your country is a privilege and our fans are to support not insult. See how the Ivorians gathered around the team when they got the second chance, nigerians won’t do that. The Ivorians followed the team and rallied around them, and it helped the team to the trophy”.
“The boy is very passionate about the country, i saw him apologise this morning to nigerian fans and said he was sorry he didn’t bring his A game”.
It’s not his fault, it’s a team game. We win together, we lose together. Most of these fans can’t even complete two laps, they don’t know what these boys go through”.
