Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa is in the Super Eagles’ camp with an injury, after copping a sprain in his arm during his club’s Federation Cup semi-final loss to Kano Pillars.
Ezenwa was forced out of his side’s 4-2 defeat in Gombe, as he was replaced towards the end of the first half of the encounter, thereby raising doubts over his ability to train with the national team.
Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr may now have to consider a late call up, after Ezenwa bowed out on Sunday against Kano Pillars at Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
Although a section of the Aba club’s fans accused Ezenwa of feigning an injury, the former FC Ifeanyiubah shot-stopper is said to have suffered a kick to his arm, prompting his premature substitution from the game.
Friday Achimugwu replaced the home-based Eagles captain, but the forced substitute conceded three second half goals, as Pillars sealed a semi-final spot against Katsina United at Agege Stadium, Lagos.
Ezenwa is among 24 players called up by Rohr for the double-AFCON qualifiers against Libya, with the first leg holding this Saturday in Uyo and the reverse fixture next Tuesday in Sfax, Tunisia.
Elche of Spain’s Francis Odinaka Uzoho and Chippa United of South Africa’s Daniel Akpeyi are the other goalkeepers in Nigeria’s squad that opened camp in Uyo on Monday.
