Former Nigerian international Ambrose Vanzekin says injury to Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is a blessing in disguise as better shot stoppers will get the needed opportunity to showcase what they are made of.
First choice Uzoho was ruled out of the AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg after he picked up an injury when his team Elche was whitewashed by Cadiz in the Spanish segunda last week and will be out of action for approximately four weeks.
With Uzoho out injured, Enyimba international safe hands Theophilus Afelokhai has been called up as replacement and Vanzekin speaking to football live.ng said “I am really happy. Theo is a good replacement for Uzoho. Akpeyi and Ezenwa are also there and I believe in them. Ezenwa qualified us for the World Cup in Russia and I feel the nation’s cup is not as big. I believe anyone that will be Manning the goal post will do their best.”
Vanzekin who was with the national team at all the junior level competitions also said Uzoho still needs time to learn the rudiments of goalkeeping from the more experienced lads.
