Falcons Rely On Names, Not Effort – Mwakapila

Date:

Shepolopolo of Zambia winger, Mary Mwakapila has floored Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons for relying on big names in their squad, rather than work hard for results.

Mwakapila hinted that misplaced assets accounted for the Falcons’ opening loss against South Africa at the Africa Women Cup of Nations, and stressed that it could mar Nigeria’s chances of going far in the event.

Footballlive.ng reports that Mwakapila stated as much heading into her teams second group match of the competition against Nigeria in Cape Coast, Ghana, where a win would take Zambia through to the semi-finals.

It would be a first ever last-four ticket for Shepolopolo and a first ever failure by the Falcons to go beyond the group stage at the African women’s soccer showpiece, but Mwakapila was talking tough ahead of their clash on Wednesday evening.

She reckoned that the Falcons would again struggle against her side, who entered the game with a 5-1 surprise spanking of Equatorial Guinea, while Nigeria lost 1-0 against South Africa.

Mwakapila predicted that her side will win the encounter, because she believes they are more determined and better focused as a team that plays together, unlike the Nigerians, who she says are individualistic.

In Zambia’s shock opening victory over Nzalang Nacional at Cape Coast Stadium, Mwakapila was on target as Shepolopolo made light work of the central Africans and she insists they will not bow to Nigeria this time out.

“Nigeria is just a name even though they are defending champions. They have good players like us and play the same football, we will beat them.

“I’m very happy to meet Nigeria because the last time we met in 2014, Nigeria defeated us six nil and this made me come up that Nigeria won’t beat us this time around,” Mwakapila submitted with a smirk.
