The Turkish Süper Lig has once again been rocked by controversy, with Fenerbahce SK launching a scathing attack on their rivals, Galatasaray and Victor Osimhen, following chaotic scenes in the match between Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor.
Adana Demirspor Walk Off the Pitch in Protest
The drama unfolded during the Galatasaray vs. Adana Demirspor clash, which was abruptly abandoned in the 30th minute after the visiting team angrily left the pitch in protest.
The controversy began in the 12th minute, when Galatasaray was awarded a penalty after Dries Mertens went down in the box.
Adana Demirspor players protested, believing Mertens had dived. However, VAR upheld the referee’s decision, and Álvaro Morata converted from the spot to give Galatasaray a 1-0 lead.
A break in play due to an injury to Barasi provided Adana Demirspor’s players—led by coach Mustafa Alper Avcı—an opportunity to express their discontent.
In a shocking turn of events, the entire team walked off the pitch in protest. The referees soon followed, prompting jeers from the crowd.
Ten minutes later, the match was officially suspended, with Galatasaray’s players greeting their supporters before heading into the tunnel.
Fenerbahce’s Furious Statement
Amidst the growing tensions in Turkish football, Fenerbahce responded fiercely to a tweet by Galatasaray on their official X (formerly Twitter) page, accusing their rivals of manipulating the system.
Fenerbahce’s statement read:
“With your irregular contracts, black market tickets, and illegal betting advertisements, you are harming our State and the Turkish Football Federation.”
“Your guided media members and insincere statements are deceiving the public.”
“Continue to mislead referees and football fans with your football players who have been making deceptive moves for years!”
“Thanks to you, there is neither trust nor justice left! But the most innocent and victimized one is always you! Congratulations, what have you done to Turkish football?”
This strongly worded statement has deepened the divide between Turkey’s top two clubs, further fueling their bitter rivalry as they remain locked in a fierce title race.
Victor Osimhen Sparks More Drama
Adding to the already heated atmosphere, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen—who has been linked with a move to Galatasaray—was seen energizing the home fans with a traditional Galatasaray chant during the match.
With controversy, protests, and club rivalries reaching new heights, the Turkish Süper Lig continues to be a battleground both on and off the pitch.
