Enugu Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed immense pride in his team, the fans, and the club’s management following their victory in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2023/2024 season.
Speaking after their decisive week 37 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Ilechukwu praised the “perfect” project that allowed him to flourish and align with the club’s lofty ambitions.
“We are the champions of the 2023/2024 NPFL,” Ilechukwu declared with palpable excitement. “It’s not easy to be a champion from the beginning. The management setup is very important. We wanted to lay a foundation, and we have now laid that foundation. We will start building this bit by bit. I know next season is going to be even better.”
Ilechukwu, who guided Rangers to the top of the NPFL standings, acknowledged the collective effort of the players, staff, and the passionate fanbase in achieving this milestone. The coach emphasized the significance of creating a supportive environment that nurtures growth and success.
“The team is hungry to reach even newer heights,” Ilechukwu continued. “The Rangers project was a perfect one for me as it provided the right environment to explore my ideas while maintaining the club’s ambitions. The commitment from everyone involved has been extraordinary.”
Reflecting on the future, Ilechukwu remained humble about his own role, expressing uncertainty about his future with the club but confident in Rangers’ ongoing success.
“I don’t know what is going to happen. I don’t know about myself. I don’t know about every other person, but all I know is that with or without Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers must do well, because it’s a place to be,” he added.
Enugu Rangers’ triumph marks a significant achievement in the club’s storied history, and the victory over Bendel Insurance cemented their champions status, clinching their 8th title in the history of the league.
