The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has entrusted Finidi George with qualifying the Super Eagles to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Currently ranked third in their group after two draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, the two-time African champions are gearing up for crucial fixtures against South Africa and Benin.
Speaking on behalf of the NFF technical committee, Ikpeba highlighted the need for victories in the upcoming matches and the importance of extracting the best performances from the talented squad under Finidi’s leadership.
“In the month of June, Nigeria will play the games of their lives against South Africa and Benin,” Ikpeba stated, underscoring the urgency for success. “We have the players, and if Finidi can get the best out of them, we will qualify for the World Cup.”
Ikpeba spoke further on Finidi’s vital role in nurturing local talent, “He lives here, he works here. He will give the local players a chance in his team. He will have to look inwards, that’s how we got the player Finidi George.”
