Finidi Hails Team Spirit as Rivers United Maintains Unbeaten Streak

Date:

Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has commended his players for their resilience in securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Akwa United in their matchday five encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The Pride of Rivers took the lead in the 31st minute when Stephen Manyo expertly converted a half-volley from Okon Aniekeme’s precise corner kick.

However, Akwa United fought back early in the second half, with Friday Apollo equalizing shortly after the restart.

With the match looking like it could end in a draw, Taiwo Abdulrafiu, who delivered a man-of-the-match performance, initiated a decisive move.

He linked up with Seiyefa Jackson, who provided the crucial assist for Ndifreke Effiong to score the winner in the 85th minute.

“It was a difficult three points. Akwa came in here to fight and see how they could get a draw, so we must commend them for putting in that effort.

It’s not easy, but at the end of the day, we got those three points.”

The victory moves Rivers United to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.

Rivers United will next face Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday, October 13, as they aim to maintain their position at the summit of the league.
