Nigerian national team gaffer, Finidi George has admitted that the team had a better play in the second half than in the first half. Recall that Nigeria played a 1-1 draw against South Africa in a matchday three encounter at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
The gaffer admitted that the team had a slow start in the first half, but they played better in the second half. He also highlighted that the South Africans did not have a lot of clear chances, and Nigeria could’ve won the game.
“We entered the game a little bit sloppy in the first half, we didn’t create much. In the second half, we took over immediately after we scored the goal. They had some chances where they threatened a little bit but it was not clear. We had all the shots, chances to have won it”, said Finidi.
He wrapped up by mentioning that it was not the best result, and the team will now look ahead to their next game.
“Overall, it was not a bad second half from the Nigerian side. First half, i felt we should’ve done better. We should’ve entered the game a little bit quicker, we conceded the goal but i think the players reacted well. It was not the best result, but a draw is better than losing. We’ll get our heads up and see how we can win the next match”.
The super eagles are currently fifth in Group C with three points from three games, just two points away from the top of the standings. The team will now travel to Abidjan and take on Benin Republic on monday in matchday 4 of the world cup qualifiers.
