Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Fresh) has called on soccer lovers to give commendations to the nation’s youth national team, Flying Eagles for picking a ticket to the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Although many Nigerian football fans are angry that the Flying Eagles, coached by Paul Aigbogun, could not finish in the top-three bracket at the recent African U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger Republic, Fresh says the World Cup ticket is a major consolation.
Footballlive.ng gathered further that Fresh is of a view that Aigbogun’s side need to be praised because they did what former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke could not do two years ago, when he could not even qualify for the continental contest.
Just two years after leading the Golden Eaglets to victory at Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Amuneke fell flat with almost the same set of lads at the under-20 level, as they lost the final qualifier 3-2 at home against Sudan at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
In contrast, Fresh took to Twitter to remind Nigerians that Aigbogun made it to the U-20 AFCON and picked a ticket to the Youth Mundial in Poland, both of which believes are worthy of praise for the coach.
Fresh added: “I want to congratulate Nigeria U20 team, Flying Eagles, for achieving the World Cup ticket in Niger Republic.
“If we review where we were coming from two years ago, we would appreciate the progress achieved this term. Two years ago, we had setback & today we have improved on it.”
