Former Super Eagles Winger Announces Retirement from Football

Date:

Former Super Eagles winger, Sone Aluko, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.

Aluko made the announcement during Ipswich Town’s end-of-season dinner, following their successful campaign that saw them gain promotion to the English Premier League.

“I couldn’t think of a better place to end my career,” said Aluko. “From top to bottom, the Club is amazing, and it has been a privilege to be here. I’ve not played as much as I would have liked, but this has still been the best year of my career.”

Expressing gratitude to his teammates, Aluko added, “All of the lads, I love every one of you, even you, Harry Clarke (Ipswich manager who gave him little game time).”

Aluko’s career spanned several clubs, including Rangers, Aberdeen, Hull City, Fulham, and Reading. He also had a loan stint in China with Beijing Renhe.

Having represented England at youth level, Sone Aluko later switched his international allegiance to Nigeria. He made seven appearances for the Super Eagles from 2009 to 2015, scoring two goals during his time with the national team.
