Former Nigerian international Gbenga Okunowo has hailed the Nigerian national team for their general performance at the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles have played four games at the AFCON, winning three and drawing one. Notable performances so far for Nigeria include wins over Ivory Coast and Cameroon.
Former Barcelona defender Okunowo has said that the spirit in the team is a good one and has noted that the team gets better with every game played at the tournament.
Okunowo, in his exact words, said:
“In those days, it’s crazy football that Nigeria plays.
“Just like now, we start badly, even in qualifying. The morale in the team is very high; even those on the bench want to enter the pitch and play.”.
“Now, they are improving with each game. They have another game soon; they’ve been resting, and they’ve gotten to know each other. It’s not like when they come in just a week before the game.”.
“We should expect a surprise against Angola. Angola play a similar pattern of play to us; we’re skilled, and they’re skilled too.”.
Nigeria face Angola at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Friday for a place in the semifinals of the continental showpiece.
