Ostersunds FK of Sweden striker, Alhaji Gero has declared that he was glad with the chance meeting he had with Tianjin Teda of China star, John Mikel Obi in Spain, as both players came head-to-head at off-season warm weather camps.
Gero disclosed further that, aside getting to meet the Super Eagles’ captain one-on-one, he also had the opportunity to share words about club prospects, and got some tips on how to battle Arsenal in next month’s Europa League clash.
Heading into the round of 32 meeting with the London-based English Premier League club on February 15, Gero says he has now been encouraged further, after meeting Mikel in Marbella, Spain on Tuesday.
Mikel won the Europa League with Chelsea during the 2012-2013 season, he was on the bench in the final against Benfica, and Gero is now taking inspiration from the Eagles captain for the clash against Arsenal.
Apart from the fourth round of the Europa League qualifiers when he was on the bench against PAOK Saloniki, Gero has figured in every single game contested by Ostersunds in this season’s competition and has scored 2 goals from 11 matches.
Gero revealed that he hopes to play with the Mikel in the national team in the near future, as he dubbed the Eagles’ skipper a legend for Nigeria.
He said: ”It’s great to meet a legend and also a leader like him. We had a good conversation on our Europa League match against Arsenal and he wished me success.
”Of course I’m really ready for any chance that comes with the nation and it will be great to play with him in the national team.”
