Abe Sunday has boasted that Sunshine Stars are ready to take on Remo Stars on Thursday November 22, in the Gold Cup Tourney South-West derby semifinals in Akure.
The Owena Waves defeated Cynosure FC 1-0 courtesy of Kehinde Adedipe’s 65th minute strike to set-up a clash against the Sky Blue Stars who placed second in Group A behind leaders Kwara United.
In a chat with Gold Cup Media after the encounter, Abe said, “It’ll be an interesting game as its no doubt a derby, and derbies are full of suspense because of the rivalry between us.
“We are not scared of them as our play style is similar. we like to play good passing football score from counter play.
“As professionals, we’re up to the task as this is our career, so we have to work hard and correct our mistakes and do better in the game as a lot is expected from us by our fans.
While assuring the new technical adviser, Suleiman Dogo of players’ loyalty, “Coach Dogo is a good coach. I have known him for a long time, I have played against his team and know what he can offer. On behalf of my colleagues, we are ready to cooperate with him to make sure we get good results.
On Owena Waves victory against giant-killers Cynosure FC; “First and foremost, I give God the glory for the victory. We have not lost any match since the beginning of the tournament. I also thank my colleagues and the coaching crew for working hard together to get this result.
“The Abakaliki side is a good team with good players but our experience playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) came to play today as we profited from the school boy defending the made in the box.”
Abe commended the organizers of the Gold Cup tournament for the initiative.
“I want to say a big thank you to the organizers for putting up this kind of pre-season tournament. It is helping us to prepare ahead of the new season. They should continue with such initiative,” Abe said.
