Benue State governor, Emmanuel Ortom has promised total support and backing to Lobi Stars of Makurdi, in their bid to overturn a 3-1 loss and pull through in Saturday’s second leg of their CAF Champions League first round tie with Gor Mahia of Kenya.
Footballive.ng gathered that, as proof of his support for the middle belt squad, Governor Ortom has approved the availability of free buses to convey fans of the team from their base in Makurdi to the match venue at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, and back home after.
As part of the high-level backing, Ortom’s deputy, Benson Abounu, who is also the club’s chairman, will lead a delegation to Enugu for the match.
Ortom called on football fans in Enugu and neighbouring states to troop into the stadium on Saturday as they did for the previous game, to cheer Lobi Stars to victory for the country.
He assured the club that the entire state stands behind them as they go into the encounter and expressed confidence in their ability to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League.
The governor’s chief press secretary, Terver Akase explained that the decision to mobilise massive support for Lobi Stars was to boost their morale to overturn the first leg defeat they suffered in Kenya.
