Heartland 2-1 Excellent: Nonchiri seals second win for Naze Millionaires in Gov Wike Unity Cup

Date:

Excellent FC’s struggles continued on Thursday after falling to Heartland FC 2-1 in the Gov Wike Unity Cup matchday six.

A goal each half of the game from captain Abiodun Thompson and Samuel Nonchiri were enough to give the Naze Millionaires the three maximum points.

Okon Otop almost fetched the opener for Heartland in the third minute after he was played through by Nnamdi Egbujo but his effort was halted by Efe Ebel.

Excellent had their first chance on goal in the 12th minute but goalkeeper Segun Fatunwase parried for a corner-kick.

The Naze Millionaires took the lead through Abiodun in the 23rd minute. The winger fired to the top corner after a scramble in the box.

Excellent FC poured men forth in a bid to claim the equalizer, creating good chances in Heartland’s defence. Agii Ogho saw his shot narrowly missing the target in the 47th minute, while Amidu Sule wasted another opportunity two minutes later.

Heartland goalkeeper Fatunwase prevented Excellent from pulling level in the 54th minute.

While Excellent were focused on leveling the score, Heartland added another goal in the 58th minute through Nonchiri via a sweet lob.

Kenneth Wilson popped up to reduce the deficit for the Ughelli based team at injury time.

Meanwhile, Heartland provisionally moved to first place on the Group B log with seven points while Excellent lie at the bottom with no point.
