Super Eagles striker, Sunday Adetunji told footballlive.ng that he has promised to score more than once if given the opportunity by head coach Gernot Rohr to play against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 17 in Johannesburg at the FNB stadium in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations 2019 qualifier.
The Abia Warrior striker was on loan to Enyimba International last season and played a part in the People’s Elephant’s CAF Confederations Cup campaign, a performance that got the attention of the Eagles technical adviser which led to his first call up and cap against Liberia in a friendly in September.
The striker said he is ready and believes he has what it takes to face the men tutored by Stuart Baxter if given the opportunity. “I have a very big chance of playing against south Africa, all I need to do is keep working hard, the likes of Ighalo, Onyekuru, Iwobi, Isaac Success, these are bunch of talents but as for me I know what I’m capable of, all I need is to work hard to add more to my goal scoring abilities.”
South Africa beat the Super Eagles in the first leg played in 2017 in Uyo but Adetunji is sure there will be no repeat of that result as he is confident the Eagles has all it takes to pull through and get the maximum points on that day “It is very possible to beat South Africa in Johannesburg because we all know how important the match is and all we need is nothing less than three points. We are going to South Africa to prove ourselves that we are better than them and to make Nigeria proud so I’m sure we are going to come back with a very good result.”
After getting his first call up and cap against Liberia in a friendly, Adetunji is confident of scoring against the Bafana Bafana if he gets the opportunity “Once I’m on the field my aim is just to score. Even if I perform all the skills in the world I am always not fulfilled until I score and if I get the opportunity to play against South Africa I promise to score more than once.”
