If Lookman Stays, Atalanta Could Win Serie A – Former Real Madrid Boss

Date:

Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capelloves that Atalanta could win Serie A if Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman remains with the club.

Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s successful season, including a hat-trick that helped the team win their first European trophy in May, defeating the previously 51 games unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen to claim the Europa League.

The club also secured a fourth-place finish in Serie A, ensuring their spot in the UEFA Champions League.

However, Atalanta suffered a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Super Cup, despite Lookman being one of the standout performers of the night.

Following the match, Lookman requested not to be included in the team’s opening league fixture and has been linked with various clubs, including PSG and Arsenal.

Reports suggest Lookman has verbally agreed on personal terms with PSG, who are currently negotiating with Atalanta over a transfer fee.

Capello praised Atalanta’s efforts in the transfer market, particularly the signing of Bellanova, and emphasized the importance of Lookman’s presence.

“I liked Atalanta’s moves, with the arrival of Bellanova, a great signing. And if Lookman stays, watch out for Gasp (Gasperini),” Capello told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Atalanta started their Serie A campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Lecce but stumbled in their second match, losing 2-1 to Torino. Lookman was absent from both fixtures, focusing on resolving his future.
