Igboun Extends Contract With FC Ufa

Date:

FC Ufa of Russia midfielder, Sylvester Emeka Igboun (Sly) has sealed a two-year contract extension with the Russian Premier League club.

The 27-year-old has been with Ufa since July 2015 after arriving from FC Midtjylland of Denmark, where he started his professional career.

The former Super Eagles player has scored 14 goals in 75 games in the Russian top-flight league, and has seven assists to his name.

Born 8 September 1990, his surname is Igbonu but was misspelled ‘Igboun’ when officials were registering his international passport.

The avuncular lad, who grew up in Agege area of Lagos, plays as a striker or an attacking midfielder, and is known for his blistering speed.

On July 13, 2015, Igbonu signed for Ufa, where he lists his nickname “Sly” on the back of his jersey instead of his surname.

He made his international debut in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game against Tanzania on 5 September 2015, replacing Moses Simon as a substitute in the 69th minute.
