Footballlive.ng can report that the last club former Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (Obagol) played for in China, Shanghai Shenhua, are leading the race to sign Odion Jude Ighalo from former Chinese Super League side, Changchun Yatai.
Following Ighalo’s decision not to follow Yatai into the Chinese lower division, he is now attracting fervent interest from four top-flight clubs in The Oriental Nation.
The report out of China indicates further that Shanghai Shenhua, which Obagol was forced to leave in June 2018, due to a prolonged bout with injury, are at the head of the quadruple of suitors for Ighalo’s signature in January.
Obafemi’s former employers are joined in the race for Ighalo by Dalian Yifang, Tianjin Quanjian and Shandong Luneng.
Incidentally, Shenhua recently appointed Ighalo’s gaffer at Watford of England, Quique Sánchez Flores as their coach, such that player and tactician could be in for a reunion should the transfer materialise.
The 29-year-old Ighalo, who last played for Yatai against Tianjin Quanjian in November, may be on his way to Shanghai, though he has two years left on the contract he signed with Changchun in January 2017.
