Ighalo Earns Fresh Support From Rohr

Date:

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has spoken out for the umpteenth time in support of Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo, as footballlive.ng can report that the gaffer has issued a verdict that the player has been overly criticised by Nigerian soccer fans.

With several fans at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo still raining critical comments on Ighalo, despite the attacker’s hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-0 spanking of Libya, Rohr said the former Udinese, Granada and Watford star has been unfairly treated.

Since the end of the 2018 World Cup, Ighalo, who bagged his first international hat-trick against the Libyans, has netted 15 goals in 16 matches for club and country, more than any player in the Eagles.

However, if several fans had their way, Ighalo would not have been on the pitch as he had not been forgiven for that miss against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.

In reaction to continued haranguing of the player, Rohr said Ighalo silenced his critics with hisd goals on the evening in Uyo, but also spared some words of praise for stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa and retired winger, Victor Moses.

Rohr said: ”I am very happy for Odion Ighalo because he has been unfairly criticized in the social media. I’m really happy that he gave a good response on the pitch.

”We also have new in Ahmed Musa who is leading the team in another style from John Mikel Obi, but he is younger and fresh. I think the team is on the right path.

”This team will be happy to receive the experienced players back. The likes of Elderson Echiejile, Victor Moses and Mikel. The average age was 24.

”We missed key players in Moses and Mikel Obi. We had two new players in the team, Samuel Kalu and Jamilu Collins who did well.”
