Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo missed out on the chance of taking his national team goals scoring form into action with his club this weekend, as he was ruled out due to suspension, footballlive.ng reports.
Ighalo made the best of the international break to shoot top of the AFCON 2019 qualifiers’ goals scorers’ log with five goals from two matches, as he helped Nigeria beat Libya 4-0 in Uyo with a hat-trick and got two three days later in a 3-2 away win in Sfax, Tunisia.
High expectations had been that he would now return to his club and hit home his 20th goal of the season in the Chinese Super League, only for him to be hit with confirmation of his suspension due to accumulated cards.
The report out of The Oriental Nation revealed that Ighalo was not in Changchun Yatai’s side for their away fixture against Beijing Guoan on Sunday because has accumulated four bookings which ruled him out the game at Workers’ Stadium.
Ighalo got his first yellow card against Shanghai Greenland Shenhua on the opening day of the season, then the second came against Guangzhou R&F of March 31, third was versus Guizhou Zhicheng on April 21 and the fourth just before reporting for international duty.
Yatai ended up missing Ighalo, who has scored 26 goals in 35 matches for club and country, as they could only one score once in a 1-1 draw away to Beijing.
