Iheanacho Assists as Leicester Progress

Date:

2020/21 FA cup winners, Leicester City have progressed from the fifth round of the FA cup in an exhilarating game againsg Premier league outfit, AFC Bournemouth. Leicester sealed the tie at the Vitality Stadium halfway into extra time as Abdul Fatawu Isshaku found the top corner in the 105th minute.

The game started out with both teams struggling to make a proper mark on proceedings, Bournemouth just edging their opponents on possession. The shot count was in favour of Bournemouth, who had 11 shots in the first half, with only 3 on target. Leicester had their own share of the shots, with 8 attempts, also with only 3 on target.

The second half was a big tale of missed chances as both teams failed to convert from their 9 goal attempts each, both only having of their attempts on target. Kelechi Iheanacho, a man who has a famous love affair with the FA cup, was introduced in the 64th minute to change the tide of the game. That change would not be done within the regulation 90 minutes.

The foxes found a way to keep the ball better in extra time, but Bournemouth still created more chances having 5 of those within the first 15 minutes of extra time. Leicester City had only 2 attempts in the first half of extra time, with just one of them on target. That one attempt on target turned out to be the telling punch as it was 19 year old Abdul Fatawu Isshaku unloading a thunderous shot off a Kelechi Iheanacho pass, right at the end of the first half of extra time.

Bournemouth ran out of juice in the second half of extra time, as they could not find their way back into the game, with Leicester city holding on for a victory.

It is the fourth time in the last seven seasons that Leicester have progressed to the last eight of the competition. The foxes will know their opposition for the quarter finals later on Wednesday evening.
