Iheanacho Good To Start Against Manchester United

Date:

Four goals in three preseason matches have set Kelechi Iheanacho up as sure starter for Leicester City in their first match of the incoming English Premier League season against Manchester United.

The former champions are set to kick start the new campaign with United on Friday, ahead of which Iheanacho put himself in the spotlight with two well taken goals at the weekend.

Iheanacho, who earlier scored against Udinese and Valencia, made hay for the third match running, as Leicester wrapped up their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 win over Lille Metropole on Saturday.

The Foxes went behind in the 4th minute, from a close-range effort from Mothiba, but they were level ten minutes from half-time thanks to a fantastic header from Iheanacho.

Just before the hour mark, Iheanacho tapped in for his second of the game after he was picked out by Chilwell, thereby tallying his third and fourth goals of the summer.

His run of goals have now put the 21-year-old former Columbus Crew of America and Manchester City of England lad ahead of England international, Jamie Vardy, who is sure to start from the bench, as he returns to Leicester just a week before the fixture.

Iheanacho, who scored three goals in an injury-hit debut campaign with The Foxes, was substituted in the 72nd minute against Lille, but vowed to make his mark against United, should he be picked by Leicester manager, Claude Puel.

He declared: “If I am chosen for the game against United I have to keep my goal-scoring record and work hard for the team and see how it goes.

“Everyone would be happy to play the first game of the season. I would like to be part of it and am looking forward to it.

“I am happy to get goals in pre-season games. As a player if you have an opportunity you have to take it.

“I think it is going to be a big season for the whole team and we are in good shape now. Last season it was a bit difficult coming back from injury and trying to get the same fitness level as the guys.

“Sometimes things don’t go the way you want. But it is looking good this season. I am injury-free and will keep working hard and am looking forward to the games.”
