Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall and Kelechi Iheanacho delivered the goals for Leicester City, on Wednesday night, as the Blue Army marched past Preston in the Championship match at King Power Stadium.
Drewsbury-Hall got a brace (60′, 90′) while Iheanacho teamed up with Wilfred Ndidi for Leicester’s second goal on the night.
The Nigerian forward took his goal tally to three in the league, while Ndidi notched his second assist and is racking up impressive stats (13apps, 3goals and 3 assists) playing in an advanced role.
Enzo Maresca’s side entered the game in second place behind Ipswich Town, and after a cagey first half, ramped up the pressure on the visitors.
Drewsbury-Hall’s goal on the hour mark broke the deadlock, before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho – replaced Jamie Vardy – tapped home from close range from an intelligent lateral pass set up by Wilfred Ndidi.
The Nigerian duo both made it back to back goals and assists in consecutive games, as did the 25 year-old Drewsbury-Hall, who also found the back of the net in the Foxes’ last game.
He completed his brace on the stroke of 90 minutes to seal a comfortable win for Leicester and stretch their run of victories to five matches.
Reflecting on his team’s performance after the match, Maresca said :
“I’m very happy. I think it’s always complicated to win these kind of games, especially every three days. We probably struggled a bit more [in the] first half, but in the second half we were much better.
“In this kind of game, it’s a key point to maintain and be patient because after 45 minutes to an hour… the opponent, they get tired and in the second half there was more space.”
“It’s still too early, but we are getting better against this type of team. It’s unbelievable, it’s huge. It’s something that I said to the players, it’s not normal. But we are in the right way, heading in the right direction.”
