Iheanacho To Replace Ighalo Against Iceland?

Date:

Feelers from the Super Eagles’ camp in Essentuki, Russia indicate that Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho is bound to replace Changchun Yatai of China star, Odion Jude Ighalo at the head of Nigeria’s attack against Iceland on Friday.

The report out of the Nigerian squad reveals that Ighalo came up for several knocks from officials and fans after struggling for form in the 2-0 loss to Croatia on Saturday, such that Iheanacho, who replaced him late in that opening group match, is billed to take his place from the start this time out.

Ighalo lasted 75 minutes in Nigeria’s opening game against Croatia, but he struggled to make an impression, but later faulted the system they played, with him as a lone-striker, as the reason behind his poor performance.

However, an inside sources has revealed that Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr was satisfied with Iheanacho’s performance in the few minutes he played, as the former Manchester City lad added pace and movement in attack, which were missing while Ighalo was on.

Iheanacho also succeeded in dragging the back line of Croatia out of their positions, and Rohr believes such could come handy against Icela‎nd, who are expected to sit deep.

During training on Monday, emphasis was on the Leicester forward, with Rohr detailing what he expects from him, as he may end up starting for the tie on Friday against Iceland.
